Small-Town Southern Charm
While this home offers a private refuge where one can enjoy nature and all of it’s beauty, the small-but-bustling villages of Highlands and Cashiers wait just a short drive away to provide modern comforts and amenities.
Just 15 minutes southwest of Old Edwards Club, the town of Highlands is a desirable escape for those withering in summertime — Barron’s ranked it in the top 20 places to keep a second home.
Highlands owes it’s cooler weather to it’s altitude and gentle summer breezes. Astride the Eastern Continental Divide, at just over 4,100 feet, Highlands is one of the very rare locations at this latitude that has an average high of only 78°F in July, far lower than the rest of the South.
Cashiers is a quaint Blue Ridge village just 10 minutes to the east of Old Edwards Club. During the warmer months, visitors flock to this tiny burg to enjoy cool weather, scenic views, outdoor recreation and small-town elegance.
Shopping, Dining, History
Both Highlands and Cashiers offer an excellent shopping experience, including antiques, arts, jewelry, home décor, florals and more. In Highlands, the Scudders Galleries auction season begins each June. Visitors will also find plentiful dining options, including fine and casual restaurants, wineries and breweries, coffee shops, cafes and more.
These two communities offer the grace and allure of yesteryear, with placid streets and well-manicured landscaping. There are a number of homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
Splendid Nature Opportunities
Wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities wait just outside these two towns. Harris and Cliffside Lakes as well as the Cullasaja and Chattooga Rivers create a fishing paradise. Known for its rainbow, brown and brook trout, Cliffside Lake is an especially popular destination. The Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests offer miles and miles of hiking trails — many that provide access to the amazing waterfalls of Western North Carolina.
These quick and easy excursions are a significant part of what makes this home such a desirable place that must be seen to be believed.
